Thankful Thursday: Where Beauty Blooms even with Bugs!

Thankful Thursday: Where Beauty Blooms even with Bugs!

Thursdays always feel like a quiet turning point. Not quite the rush of Monday's to-do list, not yet the celebration of the weekend. It's the soft breath between effort and reward - a moment to pause, reflect and lean into what's coming.

This morning, the farm woke up slowly. A storm rolled in just before dawn, bringing a hush to the heat that’s lingered all week. The air felt softer, cooler—like the earth itself had exhaled. Rain tapped gently on the studio roof, and the soil drank it in with gratitude. Even the flowers seemed relieved, their petals freshened, their colors deepened by the storm’s quiet blessing.

I walked the rows with my snips in hand, thinking about the bouquets I'll craft later today.  There’s something magical about this week’s blooms. The colors are richer, the stems stronger, and the stories they carry—well, they’re already unfolding. Maybe it’s the way the dahlias are finally waking up, or how the marigolds seem to glow with a little extra warmth. Whatever it is, this week’s bouquets will be something special.

As I snipped a few stems for harvesting, I thought about the people who’ll receive them. The teacher who’s had a long week prepping for the first day of school. The couple celebrating an anniversary. The friend who just needs a little reminder that they’re seen, heard and understood. These flowers aren’t just arrangements—they’re moments of connection, wrapped in color and care.

Some flower farmers in Oklahoma quit for the summer season. There are just too many challenges! It's HOT! Flowers are wilting and thirsty. Some leaves are chewed and speckled, marked by the bugs that call this farm home. And yet, the blossoms remain untouched—vibrant, whole, and ready to shine. I’m learning to be grateful for the bugs, too. They feed on what’s less lovely and eventually turn into pollinators.

They’re part of the balance, the quiet work of the ecosystem that makes this place thrive. But, even the challenges and imperfections hold grace. Beauty doesn’t always come from perfection—it often blooms right alongside it. To me, the beauty comes from working hard to care for something I love, so that I can bring JOY to my community and continue to show up week after week.

My succession planted seedlings are starting to pop up out of the ground and that gives me the energy to keep going and the gratitude for what’s grown, the anticipation for what’s about to bloom and the quiet joy of knowing that even the unsold stems have a purpose—whether they become art, gifts, or stories shared here.

So, here’s to this Thursday. To the blooms that whisper hope. To the hands that gather. To the hearts that receive. To the bugs that remind us that every part of this farm has a role. And to the summer storm that reminds us—sometimes, even the sky knows when we need a little reprieve. Can't wait to see y'all this weekend!

FOXY
